Description of project: Accelerated Reader books and tests and for classroom use.

It is EXCITING to watch the thrill of the students when new books and/or tests are made available, especially in our classroom.

Potential Benefits: The benefits are determined by the STAR diagnostic test administered to the students several times a year. This shows their current reading comprehension level. The other method benefits are determined is by the number of tests students take, pass and the resulting AR point accumulation.

How will the funds be used: Tests typically cost $3 each - $180 will be spent on tests and the remainder on level appropriate books from authorized titles. Educator will be making the selection from the approved books.

The charity was referred by Beth Misner.

Hi!
Beth asked me to list the books I intend to purchase with this grant. With prior fundings, I have focused on learning to read non-fiction books. With this grant, I am focusing on series students LOVE. In some cases I need to check with our librarian if AR tests are available to purchase.

I referred to what tests we own at Cullen to the Cullen Library Accellerated Reader tests listed online at this link:

Then I searched Borders to see how many more titles are available in the series, plus the cost of books. Borders' shipping will be free with orders over $25--this meets the bill! :)

Mercy Watson series by Kate DiCamillo. Cullen owns 4 tests There are at least 5 other tests @ $3 each,
plus all 9 books @ $12.99 each

Nate the Great series by Marjorie Sharmat. Cullen owns 18 tests. Puchasing all 18 books @ $4.50
There are an additional 30 books in the series that I need to check if AR tests are available to purchase. If so, I intend to purchase the remainder tests and books at $7.50 a book/test set.

Henry and Mudge series by Cynthia Rylant. Cullen owns 25 tests. Borders lists 44 titles in the "learn to read" category. Again I'll need to see if AR tests are available for the remainder. If so, I intend to purchase the tests and books.
@$6.99 book/test set

Ron Roy's A-Z Mystery series. Cullen owns all 26 tests. I intend to purchase 4 sets of each title for Book Club groups @$520

Magic Tree House series by Mary Osborn Pope. Cullen owns 44 AR tests. I intend to purchase all 44 books @ 4.99 each for @219.56

Obviously, my wish list is greater than $1000 :)

This request fits our criteria of supporting basic subjects. One question I do have is, do you we support supplies that are used only once (tests)? With that consideration, I certainly support this grant request.

I appreciate your question regarding the tests. Accellerated Readers tests are loaded on our computers and reusable. That is one of the great pieces about AR tests.
